We often get asked if our cable accessories have been Eskom “approved”, and the short answer is yes…and no. The terminology is incorrect as Eskom no longer approves cable accessories (or any other product as far as the author is aware), instead they draw up standards and specifications to which products must comply. Companies then need to type test these accessories in accordance with these specifications. Airshrink and CiP are proud stockists of various cable accessories which meet Eskom’s specifications including Ampletek (AQT3’s), CiP (medium voltage (MV) and low voltage (LV) joints, terminations, and cable accessories), and Elcon Megarad (MV joints and terminations) among others.
Eskom OLT’s and Tenders
We receive regular requests for quotations from our trusted distributors for Eskom Tenders, OLT’s, and other municipal contracts. As cable accessories can get quite technical, our friendly sales team and a dedicated tender specialist are proud to support our clients with these complex enquiries to ensure that the correct products are quoted and the relevant supporting documentation attached.
Airshrink and CiP products have been matched with applicable Eskom SAP numbers and include an individual bill of materials and a set of installation instructions. Our MV and LV cable accessories and other products have been type tested according to various industry standards including SANS 1332 (NRS 053), NRS 074-2, NRS 075 EN 50393, IEC 60055-1, CENLECHD 629.2.S2, CENELEC HD 623 S1. Eskom Factory Evaluation
When Eskom has evaluated the technical aspects of a submission, specifically on large tenders, they are required to conduct a factory evaluation. We recently had the opportunity to host Eskom at Airshrink and CiP for a Factory Sample Evaluation on both CiP and Elcon Megarad cable accessories. During the evaluation Eskom carefully reviewed our products and documentation to ensure they met the Eskom, SANS and NRS’s requirements.
The sample products which were evaluated ranged from low voltage (LV) to medium voltage (MV) cable accessories including the following:
